Good insurance cover even when travelling
Your statutory health insurance only reimburses treatment costs abroad if you are travelling in a country that belongs to the EU or has a social security agreement with Germany. Beyond European borders, you are usually a private patient. You will then have to pay even very high doctor or hospital costs in full yourself. If you fall ill while travelling, an international health insurance policy will protect you.
Health insurance abroad pays for treatment costs and rescue flights
Health insurance abroad pays for medical treatment in the case of acute illnesses and accidents abroad, as well as for necessary medicines and remedies, pain-relieving dental treatment and also the medically necessary return transport from the country of travel - if necessary even by an expensive emergency flight. You can take out health insurance abroad for a certain number of days of travel or as an annual policy at a reasonable price.
Tip: International health insurance is often included as an additional benefit in automobile club memberships, credit cards or supplementary health insurance. Check your contract documents to see if you already have international health insurance together with one of these products.
